Playsafe® protection: Individual and safe

Sports mouthguards are not all created equal. Only a professionally molded, custom made mouthguard will guarantee the best protection from harmful impacts.

Playsafe mouthguards are available from your dental practice. Impressions of the upper and lower jaw will be taken by your dentist, the sports mouthguard is then fabricated by dental technicians and delivered back to your dentist for insertion your mouthguard.

A verified Playsafe sports mouthguard is individually fabricated according to the Playsafe guidelines. A Playsafe mouthguard always consists of several laminated layers (a minimum of two), your name and phone number permanently sealed inside the mouthguard and a hygienic carry case.

Why wear a custom mouthguard 

Sports mouthguards are not all created equal.

Studies show that a Boil & Bite mouthguard provides a false sense of protection due to the dramatic decrease in thickness when the athlete bites it into place during its softened state(biting through). An original Playsafe sports mouthguard is always multi-layered and has a circulating protective border (buccal shield) that prevents too large movements of the lower jaw in case of lateral impacts.

Boil & Bite mouthguard

Boil & Bite mouthguards fit poorly and become loose. The athlete has to hold this mouthguard onto the teeth, this prevents him from producing outstanding performances.

Playsafe mouthguard

Playsafe mouthguards fit exactly onto the teeth, have excellent stability, allow movement for the opposing jaw as well as to breathe freely and to speak normally.

Tested Performance

Extensive tests show the high protective effect of the Playsafe sports mouthguard types. Resistance against deforming and pendulum test to measure power absorption and distribution.

Distribution of impact forces

This graph shows the percentage of the energy of a frontal impact that is distributed rearwards to the first molar. A higher percentage demonstrates the ability to efficiently distribute the force of pointed hard impacts to the front teeth across the entire mouthguard.

Effective lateral protection built in

Playsafe sports mouthguards, including the Playsafe triple, can include a “buccal shield“ to assist with the protection of the lower jaw. This circulating protective border (see orange circle) prevents excessively large movements of the lower jaw in case of lateral impacts.

Colours & Design

All Playsafe mouthguards can be fabricated in the 25 different colors available.

The materials and colors for the fabrication of a Playsafe mouthguard meet the conditions for tested biocompatibility and do not contain plasticizers.

Playsafe sports mouthguard can have a combination of up to 4 colors. You can compose your own multi-colored mouthguard out of the colors 1 to 15.
